Til venstre ser vi en høy, buet skjerm, en type skådam som må har vært støttet av kraftige trebukker på landsida (baksida fra fotografens standpunkt). I det steinete løpet lå det en del tømmer, antakelig lensestokker. I forgrunnen var det en støpt terskel som dels var dekt med stein. I bakgrunnen til høyre lå det en flåte med ei hytte på, og framfor den lå en robåt hvelvet med kjølen oppovervendt.
Trøsken er et smalt sund mellom to vannspeil i den øvre delen av Glommas vestre løp i Østfold, Mingevannet (øverst) og Isnesfjorden. I dette sundet, som er bare om lag 30 meter bredt, ligger det steinur oppå en underliggende bergrygg. Det var bare i flomperioder at det var noenlunde enkelt å passere Trøsken med fløtingsvirke og båter. I en tilbakeskuende artikkel som sto i Sarpsborg Arbeiderblad 24. desember det året dette fotografiet ble tatt fortelles det at «… Det hendte ar folk gikk fra Skiptvedt til Sarpsborg og tilbake igjen, men det hørte til sjeldenhetene. Derimot gikk de som bodde ved Mingevannet og på denne side av Trøsken til byen. Og det de skulde selge og ha med sig tilbake igjen måtte de bære på ryggen eller med åk. Ved høivanne rodde man over Trøsken, ellers vadde man over. Sjelden var det heller ikke at man rodde ned Vestvannet og så bar varene videre til byen …». Vinteren 1907-1908, mens man arbeidet med tømmertunnelen fra Svartdal («Toppen») ytterst i Isnesfjorden til Eidet ved Visterflo, ble det sprengt ut plass for et slusekammer ved Trøsken, men portene ble ikke montert. Etter hver kom man til at det ville være bedre å montere en klappedam i stedet. I 1930-åra ble problemet ved det trange og grunne sundet løst ved å bygge en ny dam ved Sølvstua, som stuvet opp såpass mye vann at passasjen ved Trøsken ble åpen for tømmer og små båter gjennom hele fløtingssesongen.

Dette fotografiet er fra samlinga etter Glomma fellesfløtingsforening og forløperne, Christiania Tømmerdirektion (Øvre Glommens fællesfløtningsforening) og Fredrikstad Tømmerdirektion (Nedre Glommens fællesfløtningsforening). Da det ble klart at det gikk mot avvikling av fløtinga i Glommavassdraget i midten av 1980-åra initierte Norsk Skogbruksmuseum noe de kalte «Prosjekt Glomma». Dette innebar at historikeren Øivind Vestheim og fotografen OT Ljøstad fulgte fløtinga i vassdraget med kamera de siste to fløtingssesongene, mens museumsdirektør Tore Fossum samarbeidet med administrasjonen og styret i Glomma fellesfløtingsforening om best mulig ivaretakelse av levningene etter den viktige aktiviteten fløtinga hadde vært. En del installasjoner i vassdrag måtte imidlertid fjernes, slik vassdragslovgivningen forutsatte. Mange husvære ble overdratt til grunneiere for en rimelig pris, og noe ble overlatt til aktører som ville drive formidling av vassdrags- og fløtingshistorie. Arkivene etter virksomheten ble overdratt til Riksarkivet, som valgte å la det bli liggende i en av kontorbygningene ved Fetsund lenser. Ordning av dette materialet ble påbegynt under ledelse av Øivind Vestheim. Etter at det ble etablert et museum ved Fetsund lenser i 1990 har personale derfra hatt det daglige forvaltningsansvaret for protokoll- og dokumentasjonsarkivet etter Glomma fellesfløtingsforening. Fotomaterialet etter organisasjonen ble overlatt til Norsk Skogbruksmuseum da fløtinga opphørte. Det besto av 72 album, samt en del «løse» kopier og negativer. OT Ljøstad reproduserte størstedelen av motivene ved hjelp av mellomformatkamera med negativ svart-hvitt-film. Materialet ble også enkelt registrert, i første omgang med stikkord (ofte stedsnavn og opptaksdatoer) som var skrevet inn i albumene.
Other informationJohs. Johannesen ble født i Oslo 16. mai 1877. Han tok artium i 1895, og tre år seinere ble han uteksaminert som bygningsingeniør fra Kristiania tekniske skole. Deretter var han ansatt ved Gleim og Eyde i Lübeck, seinere ved Eydes ingeniørkontor i Kristiania. I perioden 1900-01 studerte han ved den tekniske høgskolen i Dresden. I 1902 ble han fløtingsinspektør i Glomma-vassdraget, og fire år seinere ble han utnevnt til direktør i Christiania Tømmerdirektion, seinere kalt Glomma Fellesfløtingsforening. Denne stillingen hadde han fram til våren 1948, da han nådde aldersgrensen. Johannesen var ofte medlem av ulike tekniske kommisjoner, både i og utenfor fløtingsvesenet. Han skal blant annet ha høstet anerkjennelse for den innsatsen han gjorde i grenseforhandlinger med Russland. Johannesen var medlem av hovedstyret i Norsk Ingeniørforening fra 1925 til 1933, og i de tre siste åra av denne perioden var han styreleder med tittelen "president". Johs.
