The find was made accidentally by the landowner Leif Arne Nordheim whilst carrying out landscaping in his garden. In total circa 200 objects were recovered from a shallow sub-circular pit cut into the natural sediments, includling weapons, carpentry tools and smithying equipment. The deposits included charcoal and burnt bone along with placed stones. The burnt bone, where identified, is human. Radiocarbone dates and artefact typology place the find in the very late eighth century. The find is interpreted as a burial of cremated remains including smiths tools.
