«SØLV-STUA
Bare navnet Sølv-stua er nok til å få det til å ringe forjettende trolsk i ørene mine. Jeg lurer litt på om der ikke engang for lange tider siden også har foregått noget slikt trollaktig her oppe, rundt omkring Sølvstu-fossen … Kanskje har vene, forførende huldre danset sin dårende dans her oppe på de mosegrønne bakkeskråninger, i stille blå vårkvelder, eller i efterårsnetter som var boblende fulde av måneskinn … Mon ikke nøkken har sittet der nede under fossestryket og blandet sin harpemusikk med fossebruset, som fremdeles syder og koker og buldrer her, når Glomma har vann nok til å ofre til stupet.
Det er blitt en vel benyttet sti op til Sølv-stua i de siste år, og det er jo ikke noget rart i. For et mere ideelt sted å tilbringe en gang iblandt, tør en kanskje få lete lenge efter, dersom man elsker naturen. Her er variasjoner i terrenget, slik at en ikke så fort blir lei sig i disse naturomgivelser.
Og så er det ennu en ting når det gjelder stedet Sølv-stua, som er verdt å regne med, det koster ikke blanke penger å få nyte alt det som dette sted byr en. Ja, for flesteparten må vel innrømme, at dersom vi bare får betale bra, ofte langt mere enn vi mange ganger har råd til, så skal der langt skrøpeligere ting enn Sølv-stua til for å få oss vilt begeistret.
Ja, vel. Dette vet nok flesteparten før, derfor sier jeg velbekomme og fortsetter.
Dagen var tindrende klar og varm da kameraten min og jeg slang sekken på ryggen og kaffekjelen på sykkelstyret og drog i vei. I grunnen hadde jeg ingen særlig lyst på denne turen nettop nu, men da det passet slik at min kamerats ferie snart var slutt, blev det altså til at vi drog avgårde. Dessuten var det nok også en annen ting som også lokket mig et spor, - ørreten. (Dette var nemlig før Jeger- og Fiskeforeningen hadde fredet for fiske der oppe).
Jeg visste nok at det var vel tidlig på sesongen for fluefiske ennu, men det ørvesle håp jeg allikevel hadde blev adskillig be og oparbeidet av den andre skøiern, som kunde fortelle mig om, jeg vet ikke hvor mange, andre fiskere han hadde snakket med, og som hadde gjort grepa fangst straks før. For sikkerhets skyld plukket vi med oss en del mark – en abbor kunne jo ikke være å avslå i mangel på noget bedre.
Vel vi startet altså og kjørte på for å komme fortest mulig av den støvete landevei. Men akk o ve, denne vei viste sig snart å bli erstattet av en annen – som med et mildt uttrykk måtte sies å være lite heldig for våre rundtrampere, det var som å kjøre i skjæreste fine hvetemel. Men av skade blir man jo klok, en annen gang går vi altså, antydet jeg til kameraten, som i sitt ansikts sved stod oppe i en bakkekneik og skiftet bremsegummi på sykkelen sin, en ting som ærlig talt var helt overflødig, friksjonsmateriell manglet så visst ikke her.
Men da sikkerhetsforanstaltningen var vel utført, fortsatte vi. Forbi tømmertunnelens inntak drog vi uten å stanse. Det tordnet så nifst derne. Vårt blikk var vendt opover mot de høie, stupbratte fjellhammere som hang truende utover våre hoder. Her kommer sikkert til å skje en ulykke ala den i Tafjord, en dag, bemerket jeg.
Bare ingen er under så, svarte han.
Underforstått oss? Innskjøt jeg.
Han svarte ikke noget. Enhver er jo sig selv nærmest.
Men av helt naturlige grunner stanset vi begge to lettere, da vi var kommet op på høidedraget nvor skogluften var frisk og lett, og synet hadde fritt spillerum langt utover skog og fjellpartier, hvor enkelte lysegrønne pletter, med hvite og rødmalte hus brøt de andre farver.
En lang stund gikk vi opover, stadig opover. Jeg synes til slutt det blev litt langtekkelig og gå slik og dra på sykkelen, og for om mulig å kunne få stemningen litt op forsøkte jeg en strofe av: «Undrer mig på hvad jeg får se …», men da snudde kameraten sig og sa med en lett anstrøken spydighet i stemmen: De får du nok snart visshet for. Og nå var vi plutselig kommet på toppen, nesten momentant uten nogen tid til videre filosofering stod vi der og så med sødmefylt blikk utover … utover. Og da var tiden inne til å ta en annen strofe, men før jeg fikk begynt på den, var kameraten alt kommet mig i forkjøpet. Han satt allerede på sykkelen og jodlet: «Nedover går det, nedover går det …». Jeg kastet mig også på og lot det stå til. Og jeg skal si det gikk. Jeg hadde ventet at denne nedforbakke minst skulle ta fem minutter, efter opstigningen å dømme. Men nei takk. Plutselig, uten å ane noe, strøk jeg for full fart ned gjennem et le, og så stod jeg midt på en svær gårdsplass.
Kameraten var i full sving med å akkordere om å få sette sykkelen der, hvilket vi velvillig fikk.
Og så var det å finne den beneste vei til Sølv-stua.
Vi blev vist tversover et jorde, men da fikk min kamerat betenkerligheter. Han hadde nemlig fått øye på to hester som gikk på beite der. Men tilslutt innvilget han da i et forsøk, dog på de betingelser at jeg skulde ta ansvaret for hans efterlatte, dersom vi blev angrepet. Heldigvis var hestene av fredligsinnet rase, så mitt pålagte ansvar overleverte jeg straks efter da vi velberget hadde kommet oss over gjerdet.
Og nu steg vårt mot og humør eftersom vi snart merket at vi nærmet oss vårt mål. Terrenget skrånet stadig nedover, og om en stund kunde vi også høre fossens underlige monotone sang.
Vi skrittet på, bruset blev stadig større og sterkere, et lite stykke til, så lysnet det i skogen – som sangeren sier – og så stod vi der og så utover dette vidunderlige sted som bar det edle navn, Sølvstua. Et storslagent syn, vil jeg kalle det. En liten heldende bakkeplett der vi for øieblikket stod, like nedenunder oss Glommas mektige sølvbånd som danset og buktet sig i lekende strømdans nedover, for tilslutt å styrte fallet i skummende imponerende styrke og prakt. Og over på den annen side reiste sig, nesten loddrett tilværs, ville, mørke og efter min bedømmelse uoverstigelige fjell.
Men litt lenger nedover, der disse gigantiske sten… [her er det en rift i avisa] begyndte å anta dagli… dimensjoner, begynte igjen skogen å klore sig fast, og så var det intet mere som kunne hindre den i å utvikle sig fritt, så langt som synet rakk tegnet storskogen sitt grønne billede som i stille, harmoniske nyanser tilslutt tapte sig i bare blått.
Kan du tro dette er mitt inne i selve det flate Østland – spurte jeg kameraten?
Å nei, han dro litt på det, for han var alt ivrig opptatt med å sanke brennbare ting som skulde varme op kjelen, derfor sa heller ikke jeg mere, jeg hadde såmen ikke noe imot å få litt under vesten. I ro og mak strakte jeg mig på den vesle plett som bar tydelige merker efter tidligere kamperinger. Men ikke svært lenge fikk jeg ligge slik og dovne mig. Jeg blev plutselig revet ut av min stille filosofering ved ordren: Nå får du jammen passe kaffen – jeg skal fiske jeg.
Motstrebende dro jeg mig bort til varmen, mens kameraten klatret nedover mot vannet. Her har du flue! Ropte jeg efter ham – da jeg visste han ingen hadde av den slags. Han vendte sig og svarte litt ironisk: Flue, sa du flue? Ja, svarte jeg litt nølende. Han lo. Da får vi ta en tur senere da – jeg så i avisen i går, at fluefisket var helt nytteløst enda …
Ja, men alle de andre fiskerne da? De som hadde fått så meget?
Å, jeg sa jo ikke at de hadde fått ørret, jeg. Det var abbor de hadde fått. Håber du tilgir mig.
Da jeg på ingen måte angret på turen, tilgav jeg ham stiltiende.
Og dagen gikk sin vante runde i dirrende solskinn deroppe ved Sølv-stua. Stille og fredelig uten teknisk larm nød vi det hele. En stor hauk svevet i ophøiet ro over de stupbratte fjellhammere og speidet efter noe. Den iakttok nok oss også, dernede vi stod og forsøkte fiskelykken – vekselvis med flue og mark – uten synlig resultat. Da plutselig ble jeg var ørretsprett borte i en liten vik over på den andre siden av elven. Vannet var stille der og gang på gang så jeg den slå efter flyet som summet tett over vannflaten. Nå, sa jeg. Derborte er nok fisken villigere. Skal vi prøvd å komme oss over?
Kameraten hadde ikke noe imot dette, hvorfor vi sporenstreks ga oss ivei. Men da vi kom så langt som til overgangen fikk vi nok betenkeligheter. Broen, som engang hadde vært en solid ting, var så medtatt av tidens tann at det efter min mening her godt kunne anvendes setningen fra diktet om Gudmund Storebingen: - men av bro ei fantes annet, enn en stump o. s. v.
Vi våget oss allikevel et stykke utpå, men de råtne monstrum av en bro, skalv og sukket – den liksom advarte oss, og vi gav akt på advarselen. Jeg kunne likevel ikke dy mig for å citere: Tør nogen vade over?
Men kameraten tviholdt på fiskestangen og satte kursen nordover, der fisken absolutt ikke opholdt sig for øieblikket. Jeg fulgte motstrebende med. Lenger og lenger gikk vi, stadig nordover. Et flertall av fiskeplasser forsøkte vi, og jeg vil heller ikke utelate å nevne at vi også fikk en og annen liten abbor som vel hadde følt sig tiltrukket av vår tørre solvarme mark.
Og timene gikk. Det var begyndt å danne sig lange skygger da vi omsider var kommet så langt nordmed elven så vi kunne se stedet hvor Glomma deler sig i to armer. Bruset fra Sølvstuefossen hørtes nu bare som en fjern sus. Vi satt på en heldende fjellskråning og kveiket pipene våre, mens vi hver for oss nød synet av kveldsrødmen som nu glødet rundt skog- og fjeldtopperne, og farvet det hele i Soria-Moria’s vidunderlige spekter.
En stille gløtt inn i selve eventyret. Men med en gang blev vi plutselig revet ut av våre drømmerier, en fjern, tiltagende larm bragte oss til å speide i en annen retning, og om et øieblikk fikk vi igjen bevis for at selv ikke heroppe kunne en føle sig sikker for larmen fra tidens moderne teknikk. Et stort tyveseters fly larmet nemlig tett over våre hoder, i retning Oslo. Ruten Oslo-Berlin var det. Vi følte oss nok i øieblikket små der vi stod, og jeg for min part ønsket også å være det – noen sekunder efter var kjempefuglen og dens larm forsvunnet og sommerkveldens ro la sig over stedet, vi to små mennesker i den store vide verden, nu befant oss.
En stund senere la vi fiskestengene sammen, snøret sekkene forsvarlig og rusket ivei i retning av gården hvor vi hadde våre rundtrampere stående. Smått gikk vi, stedet hadde i disse få timer blitt oss så kjært at det liksom var leit å gå fra det.
Men Sølvstua og traktene omkring der – ligger der og lokker og venter på oss og vi – ja, vi kommer igjen.
For selv om tiden er forbi da vene vakre huldre danser sin dårende dans deroppe i trolske netter, ja selv om eventyrets koselige nøkk ikke lenger stemmer sin harpe under fossestupet, er selve hovedtingen, et stykke ordentlig norsk natur den samme deroppe – et virkelig naturstykke som vårt Østland ikke har så svært mange av.»
SubjectFra bygginga av Sølvstudammen i Tune i Østfold i 1936. Denne dammen ligger i Ågårdselva, et cirka fem og en halv kilometer langt vassdrag som renner fra den nordvestre enden av Isnesfjorden (Vestvannet) i Nedre Glommas vestre løp, sørvestover gjennem berglendt terreng mot innsjøen Visterflo. Høydeforskjellen mellom Isnesfjorden og Visterflo er på bortimot 25 meter. Ågårdselva har tre fossefall, det øverste her ved Sølvstu, deretter ved Valbrekke og nederst ved Solli. Fotografiet er tatt gjennom det som skulle bli damløpet i Sølvstudammen, i medstrøms retning. Både fra elvebotnen mot damkrona og langs sidene var det bygd forskalinger av bord på et rammeverk av 2" X 2" og 4" X 4". Fem av forskalingssnekkerne er med på fotografiet. Noe høyere oppe ses et stillas med bordgang, hvor det sto ei trillebår. I bakgrunnen skimtes noe av elveleiet og en åskam med barskog.

Dette fotografiet er fra samlinga etter Glomma fellesfløtingsforening og forløperne, Christiania Tømmerdirektion (Øvre Glommens fællesfløtningsforening) og Fredrikstad Tømmerdirektion (Nedre Glommens fællesfløtningsforening). Da det ble klart at det gikk mot avvikling av fløtinga i Glommavassdraget i midten av 1980-åra initierte Norsk Skogbruksmuseum noe som ble kalt «Prosjekt Glomma». Museet satte historikeren Øivind Vestheim og fotografen OT Ljøstad til å følge fløtinga i vassdraget med notatblokk, lydbandopptaker og kamera de siste to fløtingssesongene, mens museumsdirektør Tore Fossum samarbeidet med administrasjonen og styret i Glomma fellesfløtingsforening om best mulig ivaretakelse av levningene etter den viktige aktiviteten tømmertransport til vanns hadde vært. En del installasjoner i og ved elver og innsjøer måtte imidlertid fjernes, slik vassdragslovgivningen forutsatte. Mange husvære ble overdratt til grunneiere for en rimelig pris, og noen eiendommer og kulturminner ble overlatt til aktører som ville drive formidling av vassdrags- og fløtingshistorie. Arkivene etter virksomheten ble overdratt til Riksarkivet, som valgte å la det bli liggende i en av kontorbygningene ved Fetsund lenser. Ordning av dette materialet ble påbegynt under ledelse av Øivind Vestheim. Etter at det ble etablert et museum ved Fetsund lenser i 1990 har personale derfra hatt det daglige forvaltningsansvaret for protokoll- og dokumentarkivet etter Glomma fellesfløtingsforening. Fotomaterialet etter organisasjonen ble overlatt til Norsk Skogbruksmuseum etter at fløtinga opphørte. Det besto av 72 album, samt en del «løse» kopier og negativer. OT Ljøstad reproduserte en del av motivene ved hjelp av mellomformatkamera med negativ svart-hvitt-film. Materialet ble også enkelt registrert, i første omgang med stikkord (ofte stedsnavn og opptaksdatoer) som var skrevet inn i albumene. Skanning og fyldigere registrering tas innimellom andre oppgaver, og ettersom samlinga er stor, vil det ta lang tid før dette arbeidet er fullført. Norsk Skogbruksmuseum publiserte i 1998 Øivind Vestheims bok «Fløtning gjennom århundrer», hvor mye av materialet fra «Prosjekt Glomma» og fotografier fra Glomma fellesfløtingsforenings arkiv ble presentert.
Other informationJohs. Johannesen ble født i Oslo 16. mai 1877. Han tok artium i 1895, og tre år seinere ble han uteksaminert som bygningsingeniør fra Kristiania tekniske skole. Deretter var han ansatt ved Gleim og Eyde i Lübeck, seinere ved Eydes ingeniørkontor i Kristiania. I perioden 1900-01 studerte han ved den tekniske høgskolen i Dresden. I 1902 ble han fløtingsinspektør i Glomma-vassdraget, og fire år seinere ble han utnevnt til direktør i Christiania Tømmerdirektion, seinere kalt Glomma Fellesfløtingsforening. Denne stillingen hadde han fram til våren 1948, da han nådde aldersgrensen. Johannesen var ofte medlem av ulike tekniske kommisjoner, både i og utenfor fløtingsvesenet. Han skal blant annet ha høstet anerkjennelse for den innsatsen han gjorde i grenseforhandlinger med Russland. Johannesen var medlem av hovedstyret i Norsk Ingeniørforening fra 1925 til 1933, og i de tre siste åra av denne perioden var han styreleder med tittelen "president". Johs.
