Kniv- og felemakeren Aasmund Hovden (1876-1952) var født i Høydalsmo i Tokke kommune i Telemark. Han var også gardbruker og dreve flere garder og plasser i Lårdal. Høydalsmo og Eidsborg. Hovden var opptatt av snekring. Han lagde møbler, blant annet framskap, kommoder og rammer. Dessuten var han skimaker. Mest kjent var han nok som felemaker. Den første fela lagde han i 1908. Hovden lagde også sølvknapper og sølvspenner som han dekorerte.
Knivproduksjon begynte han antakelig med først omkring 1920, mens han bodde på Reffelbrekk i Eidsborg. Sammen med Bjørn Kleppo (1894-1975) gav Hovden form til det vi i ettertid oppfatter som bunadskniven fra Telemark. Denne kniven har sølvholker med blomsterrankedekor av en type han brukte mye i perioden mellom 1935 og 1952. Kniven ble innkjøpt til museet for midler som ble stilt til disposisjon av Norsk Knivforening.
