IBM 80 hullkortsorterer var IBMs første horisonlate sorteringsmaskin. Den økte hastigheten fra de vertikale betydelig, og kunne prosesserer opp til 450 kort i minuttet. Modellen var en av de lengst produserte og i størst antall av alle IBMs hullkortmaskiner, med over 10 000 registrerte enheter på utleie pr. 1943.
Sorteringsmaskinene var en sentral maskin i et hullkortanlegg. Den ble brukt til å sortere bunker med hullkort etter ulike data, for eksempel salgstall, trekke ut utvalg av kort til videre prosessering og sumemring, og gjenopprette sorteringsorden i store mengder hullkort.'
Denne sortereren har vært utsilt sammen med IBM 650 - Emma fra 1958, og er registrert som en del av dette anlegget. Det er uklart om den faktisk har vært brukt i Emma-anlegget, men ikke utenkelig. Universitetet i Bergen hadde flere eldre IBM-maskiner i bruk før Emma ble anskaffet, og eldre maskiner som denne inngikk ofte i arbeidsflyten også i nyere elektroniske anlegg utover på 1950-tallet. Den tilhører imidlertig ikke IBM 650-familien.
