Plantefelt cirka 220 meter over havet i Fløydalen, like øst for Bergen sentrum. Skogplantingsarbeidet her ble påbegynt i midten av 1870-åra med finansiering av Bergens skog- og treplantingsselskap og under ledelse av forstmannen Nicolai Endresen Krog (1838-1907). Det bestandet av norsk gran (Picea abies) som ses i forgrunnen på dette fotografiet skal være plantet i 1879. Dette fotografiet er tatt cirka 30 år seinere. Den dresskledde mannen til høyre i forgrunnen gir bildet en målestokk, som indikerer kraftig vekst. Grana var et av de treslagene som vokste frodigst på treplantingsselskapets plantefelt. I revnene i fjellet i bakgrunnen, der det var lite jordsmonn, hadde man forsøkt å plante buskfuru (Pinus mugo, den gang kalt Pinus montana). Dette treslaget ble gjerne brukt på de mest værharde og skrinne lokalitetene, i håp om at den etter hvert skulle kunne skjerme for andre, «nyttigere» treslag. Gjerder var viktige for å skjerme plantningene mot beiteskader. Da plantearbeidene i Bergensområdet startet i midten av 1860-åra ble det brukt tørrmurte steingjerder, som det var svært tid- og arbeidskrevende å lage. Her er det brukt et ståltrådgjerde, som vel for så vidt hadde utspilt sin rolle som hegn da trærne var blitt så store som de var da dette bildet ble tatt.
«Bergenske Skov- og Træplantningsselskab» ble stiftet i 1868 forsyne «de nu nøgne Fjeldsider i Bergens Omegn med Skov». Arbeidet startet på den sida av fjellet Løvstakken som vendte mot byen, der treplantingsselskapet rett og slett kjøpte plantemark, men også organiserte planting på privat grunn. Seinere fortsatte man på Fløyen og de andre bergensfjellene. Planteprosjektene ble dels finansiert gjennom kontingenten bergensborgerskapet betalte for å være medlemmer av treplantingsselskapet, dels ved bidrag fra lokale fond og også med offentlige bidrag. Statens skogfunksjonærer på Vestlandet administrerte virksomheten. Forstmester Andreas Tandberg Gløersen (1836-1904) og skogplanter Martin Adolf Grude (1841-1918) mente at det kunne vokse bartrær i jordsmonnet, som besto av sand og grus. Elever fra landbruksskolen på Stend bidro i plantearbeidet. Det ble først plantet norsk gran (den gang kalt Abies excelsa), norsk og østerriksk furu (Pinus silvestris og Pinus austriaca, Høss.), og lerk (Larix euopea). Det ble også plantet noe canadisk kvitgran (den gang kalt Abies alba, Lawson), som hadde greid seg godt i danske og nordtyske hedeplantinger, og ble ansett for å være et godt lovende treslag i kystegnene. Importfrø av sistnevnte treslag var imidlertid kostbart, noe som nok begrenset bruken. Lerketrærne skjøt raskt i været, men skrantet etter hvert. Skogfunksjonærene antok at dette skyldtes jordsmonn og klima, og bruken av dette treslaget ble trappet ned. Furua greide seg derimot bra, og gran vokste fantastisk. Alt i slutten av 1870-åra kunne man konstatere at «tidligere udførte Træplantninger i Løvstakkens Skraaning trives ogsaa godt og begynde nu at blive iøinefaldende fra Byen af.»

Dette fotografiet ble funnet i en konvolutt i Norsk skogmuseums bildearkiv merket «Fra A. Barths billedarkiv». Bildene har altså tilhørt forstmannen Agnar Johannes Barth (1871-1948). Baksida av kartongen det er opplimt på er påført et ovalt stempel merket «GJ SVANGE».
