I 1963 arrangerte Norsk Skogbruksmuseum en «jaktens og fiskets dag» i forbindelse med et messearrangement som skulle fremme reiselivet i Elverum og omkringliggende bygder. Seinere har museet hatt et slik arrangement hvert år, og med økende tilslutning både fra utstillere og publikum ble navnet i begynnelsen av 1970-åra endre til «De nordiske jakt- og fiskedager». I perioden 11.-14. august 2016 ble arrangementet avviklet for 54 gang. Stein Tore Andersen var arrangementsleder, med støtte fra museumskollegene, en stor stab av arrangementsmedarbeidere og eksterne krefter på om lag 220 stands. Blant utstillerne fantes det både folk som hadde produkter fra arrangementets temafelt å selge og aktører som av ideelle årsaker hadde noe å formidle til publikum. Arrangementet hadde dessuten et fagprogram, med foredrag og demonstrasjoner av ymse jakt-, fiske- og skogbruksrelaterte aktiviteter. Mesteparten av aktivitetene foregikk i friluft, og regnvær la en viss demper på den andre arrangementsdagen. Jakt- og fiskedagene tiltrakk seg likevel 31 785 besøkende og 4 090 bilister løste parkeringsbilletter. Mange kom også til fots eller via oppsatte skyttelbusser.

Dette er Norges største utstilling for jakthunder, og i 1016 var det cirka 840 påmeldte, hvorav også en del svenske og danske hunder. «Kalyanas Stairway to Heaven» tilhører Ulla Stålnacke Vestergren fra Värmdö i Stockholms län i Sverige. Her er hunden fotografert med elva Glomma som bakgrunn.
Dette er ett av mange dokumentasjonsopptak museumsfotograf Bård Løken gjorde under arrangementet De nordiske jakt- og fiskedager på Norsk Skogmuseum 11.-14. august 2016. Fotografiene ble i første omgang tatt for å promotere arrangementet på sosiale medier, men en del av dem ble også tatt inn i museets digitale fotodatabase.
