Ragnar Nysæther er født i Osen, i Åmot kommune i Østerdalen i 1962. Han har hatt treskjæring som hovedyrke siden 1990. Nysæther har levert flotte tablåer med motiver fra arbeidslivet i skogen og langs fløtingsvassdragene til Norsk Skogmuseums avdeling på Sørlistøa i Osen. De om lag 40 menneskeskikkelsene på disse tablåene ansiktstrekk og kroppslig særpreg som lokalbefolkningen gjenkjenner fra sambygdingene sine. Nysæther er også representert i Skogmuseets utstillinger i Elverum. I 2008 leverte han ei flott julekrybbe til hovedkirka i hjemkommunen Åmot. Nysæther hadde separatutstilling på Skogmuseet i 2002. Han har også hatt utstilling i Galleri Oro. Ragnar Nysæther vant førstepris i magasinet Villmarkslivs treskjærerkonkurranse i 2001, og han har ved flere anledninger vist sine ferdigheter under arrangementer som Villmarksmessa, De nordiske jakt- og fiskedager og Reiselivsmessa på Sjølyst. Nysæther har også skåret trediplomene til vinnerne av Vidar Sandbecks kulturpris. Sjøl ble han tildelt Åmot kommunes kulturpris i 2002.

Dette er en detalj fra en serie modellarbeider Nysæther har levert til Sørlistøa fløtermuseum ved Osensjøen. Modellene viser scener fra det lokale arbeidslivet i skogen og på vassdraget. De er dels formet i gran eller furu, men menneskefigurene har Nysæther formet i lind, i mange tilfeller med ansiktstrekk som folk i lokalsamfunnet vil dra kjensel på. Denne montasjen ble ferdig i 1990. På dette fotografiet ser vi sju av åtte karer som gikk rundt gangspillet, en tresylinder (kalt «tynna» [tønna]) midt på flåten med to kraftige stenger, montert i kryss, på toppen. På den nevnte sylinderen var det viklet ei trosse, som hadde et kraftig anker («dregg») i enden. Ankeret ble først rodd så langt i ønsket bukseringsretning som trossa rakk, og sluppet ned, slik at den satte seg fast på botnen. Deretter kunne den «spellinga» eller «dansinga» vi ser på denne modellen starte, slik at flåten og en tømmerbom den hadde på slep ble trukket gradvis nærmere ankerpunktet. Deretter karene klare for et nytt «flytt».
Karene som er portrettert i denne montasjen er (fra venstre) Ottar Sandvik, Nicolai Myrene, Olaf Sandvik, Torgal Sømo (med skjegg og hatt i forgrunnen), Magne Nergård (i bakgrunnen), Kåre Nordnes og Jens Sagen. Sistnevnte var for øvrig den første figuren Ragnar Nysæther skar til utstillingene ved Sørlistøa fløtermuseum.
