«Opp til 100 kbm tømmer i Glåma i en vending i Stor-Elvdal
14 tonns bulldozer slår 5 400 kbm i elva på 8-10 dager fra Halvorstuvelta
Det er første gang vi har forsøkt maskinelt utislag, men det blir sikkert ikke den siste, bemerket driftsbestyrer Sverre Hagen da en av våre medarbeidere besøkte Halvorstuvelta nord for Koppang, der en stor bulldozer de siste dagene har slått 5 400 kbm tømmer på elva. Det var nærmest de ekstraordinære forholdene etter isgangen i fjor høst som tvang fram dette eksperimentet, men trass i at man ikke hadde noen erfaringer å bygge på – og forholdene til dels har vært mindre gunstige – er det all grunn til å være fornøyd med resultatet. På 8-10 dager er den store velteplassen ryddet, og 5 400 kbm tømmer er på vei sørover på Glåmas brede rygg.
EKSTRAORDINÆRE TILTAK
Floringsanlegget på Halvorstuvelta var trolig det største i Østerdalen, mente Hagen. Her var lagt opp 5 400 kbm i floringer som var 8-10 meter høye og 25 meter lange. Det var tømmer som Hagen har drevet ut av Tresaskogen i vinter for Tofte Cellulosefabrikk. På grunn av isgangen i høst var det umulig å komme ut på isen med tømmeret. Isgangen presset også floringene nokså langt tilbake. Det var derfor klart at man måtte prøve ekstraordinære tiltak for å få tømmeret på elva i rett tid, og resultatet ble at Per Mælen fikk slippe til med sin 14 tonns bulldozer.
DET GIKK BEDRE ENN FOLK TRODDE
Det var nok mange som ristet på hodet og spådde ille, men stort sett har utislaget gått utmerket. Hadde det vært normal vannføring i Glåma ville det sikkert ha gått enda bedre. Særlig de første dagene gikk det fint, og bulldozeren tok opp til 100 kbm på skyffelen og skjøv så å si hele floringen på elva i en vending. De siste floringene lengst nord på velta gikk ikke så glatt, enda de var de minste. Det skyldtes i første rekke at vannføringen var sunket betraktelig, og dessuten var foten på velteplassen ødelagt av isgangen, slik at bulldozeren ikke kunne følge på langt nok. Tømmeret bandt seg også svært i stor stein som var blitt liggende igjen etter at isgangen tok med seg massene.
Men det går vel nokså hardt ut over tømmeret?
Særlig når tømmeret binder seg slik er det ikke til å unngå at det blir en del brekkasje, men neppe mer enn en må regne med under vanlig tverråfløting.
NYTTIGE ERFARINGER
Har De gjort noen erfaringer som kan komme til nytte i senere år?
For det første bør floringene ikke ligge for tett, en avstand på 2,5 til 3 meter vil trolig være passe, slik at stokkene ikke hekter seg sammen. De bør heller ikke være altfor lange slik at bulldozeren kan ta hele floringen i ett drag rett ut i elva. Fra bunnen av floringen bør det legges et tett underlag som en slags golving for at tømmeret skal gli lettere. Av samme grunn må en også sprøyte floringene godt hvis det ikke er regnvær. Og naturligvis bør en ha en forholdsvis stor bulldozer. En 14-tonner har ikke noen vanskeligheter med å skyve 80-100 kbm i draget.
MINDRE MANNSKAP
På grunn av de ugunstige forholdene, i første rekke unormalt lav vannstand, måtte man i år bruke et forholdsvis stort mannskap ved siden av maskinen. Elva tok ikke unna slik den ville ha gjort hvis det hadde vært mer vann. Men skulle en ha rådd med så store floringer bare med håndmakt, ville en trenge mye folk, sier Hagen. For et par år siden hadde tjue mann jobb i tre uker med å slå uti 4 000 kbm fra floringene på Halvorstuvelta. Under alminnelig gode forhold ville en ikke trenge mange mann ved siden av maskinen.
I år var det ikke annet tømmer på Halvorstuvelta, men velteplassen brukes ellers av flere skogeiere. Om det da dreier seg om mindre partier på hver enkelt, vil det nok lønne seg å gå sammen om en maskin og fordele utgiftene etter kubikkmeteren, mente Hagen.
Det var Tømmerdireksjonen som for tre år siden satte i stand Halvorstuvelta etter at Tresa var nedlagt som fløtingså. Tømmeret må nå tas med bil eller traktor til denne velteplassen, som har et stort nedslagsfelt. Hit kommer tømmer, ikke bare fra Tresaskogene, men også fra Øvergård og Nordstu-Koppang.»
SubjectDen såkalte Halvorstuvelta i Stor-Elvdal, fotografert våren 1958. Denne velteplassen ble opparbeidet av Glomma fellesfløtingsforening i første halvdel av 1950-åra, etter at fløtinga i Tresa var avviklet. Tanken var at tømmer fra denne sideelvas nedslagsfelt skulle transporteres på nybygde skogsbilveger til denne velteplassen. Tømmeret ble levert i høye strøvelter, som skulle gi stokkene en lett tørk før det ble slått på elva når våren kom. Store tømmerleveranser fra en velteplass, som denne, muliggjorde maskinelt utislag. På Halvorstuvelta ble det brukt bulldoser for å få tømmeret ut i vassdraget fra 1956. Å skyve tømmeret ut i elveløpet med slike maskiner viste seg langt mer kostnadseffektivt enn å rulle det ut i elva manuelt. Dette fotografiet er tatt tidlig på våren, mens det ennå lå is på elva, før fløtinga kunne starte.

Dette fotografiet er fra samlinga etter Glomma fellesfløtingsforening og forløperne, Christiania Tømmerdirektion (Øvre Glommens fællesfløtningsforening) og Fredrikstad Tømmerdirektion (Nedre Glommens fællesfløtningsforening). Da det ble klart at det gikk mot avvikling av fløtinga i Glommavassdraget i midten av 1980-åra initierte Norsk Skogbruksmuseum noe de kalte «Prosjekt Glomma». Dette innebar at historikeren Øivind Vestheim og fotografen OT Ljøstad fulgte fløtinga i vassdraget med kamera de siste to fløtingssesongene, mens museumsdirektør Tore Fossum samarbeidet med administrasjonen og styret i Glomma fellesfløting om best mulig ivaretakelse av levningene etter den viktige aktiviteten fløtinga hadde vært. En del installasjoner i vassdrag måtte imidlertid fjernes, slik vassdragslovgivningen forutsatte. Mange husvære ble overdratt til grunneiere for en rimelig pris, og noe ble overlatt til aktører som ville drive formidling av vassdrags- og fløtingshistorie. Arkivene etter virksomheten ble overdratt til Riksarkivet, som valgte å la det bli liggende i en av kontorbygningene ved Fetsund lenser. Ordning av dette materialet ble påbegynt under ledelse av Øivind Vestheim. Etter at det ble etablert et museum ved Fetsund lenser i 1990 har personale derfra hatt det daglige forvaltningsansvaret for protokoll- og dokumentarkivet etter Glomma fellesfløtingsforening. Fotomaterialet etter organisasjonen ble overlatt til Norsk Skogbruksmuseum da fløtinga opphørte. Det besto av 72 album, samt en del «løse» kopier og negativer. OT Ljøstad reproduserte størstedelen av motivene ved hjelp av mellomformatkamera med negativ svart-hvitt-film. Materialet ble også enkelt registrert, i første omgang med stikkord (ofte stedsnavn og opptaksdatoer) som var skrevet inn i albumene. Skanning og fyldigere registrering utføres innimellom andre oppgaver, og ettersom samlinga er stor, vil det ta lang tid før dette arbeidet er fullført.
