Fra den øvre delen av elva Mår i Tinn kommune i Telemark. Vi ser et vidt, flomstort og til dels kvitskummende elveløp, omgitt av granskog og med fjellrygger der det fortsatt lå snø i bakgrunnen. Mår kommer fra Mårvatn og den regulerte Kalhovdfjorden. Vassdraget er om lag 35 kilometer langt, og det ble fløtet tømmer fra Raunehølen, 22-23 kilometer fra utløpet i nordenden av Tinnsjøen. På denne strekningen har elva et fall på 624 meter, inkludert en del stryk og fossefall, som gjorde det vanskelig å fløte lange stokker her. Arbeidet og fløtingskostnadene ble fordelt på fire roter. Fotografiet er antakelig fra den fjerde av disse, der det ble sagt at elva hadde «… et forholdsvis rolig løp med lave elvebrauter, så tømmeret kan leveres langs elva». Sjøl om elva på dette fotografiet, som nevnt, går ganske kvitskummende, passer denne terrengbeskrivelsen godt. Fløtinga i Mår pågikk som regel i 12-14 dager, og vanligvis fikk man tømmeret ned til Tinnsjøen i løpet av en sesong.

Dette fotografiet en av flere fotografiske kopier i lite format (cirka 10,5 X 7,8 centimeter) som er innlimt i en kopi av en rapport med tittelen «Tinns vasdrag» som befinner seg i arkivet etter Skiensvassdragets Fellesfløtningsforening (ARK-1044, Db, 55A). Ingeniør og fløtingsinspektør Frithjof Rosnæss har signert rapporten, og det er nærliggende å anta at han også har tatt fotografiene under sine befaringsreiser i fløtingsdistriktet han hadde ansvar for, Øst-Telemark.
