- Fra 1960-åra og framover krympet fløtingsaktiviteten i Glommavassdraget. I 1981 kom det signaler om ytterligere innskrenkninger fra Glomma fellesfløtingsforening, som på det tidspunktet kun ekspesderte cellolosevirke til Borregaard-fabrikken i Sarpsborg. Museumsbestyrer Tore Fossum ved Norsk Skogbruksmuseum forsto at tømmerfløtinga i Norges største vassdrag snart kunne opphøre fullstendig. For Fossum og museet ble det viktig å dokumentere virksomheten fellesfløtingsforeningen organiserte før den forsvant. Derfor ble museets fotograf, OT [Ole-Thorstein] Ljøstad sendt ut for å fotografere. Han fulgte fløternes arbeid ved Lomnessjøen og Storsjøen i Rendalen, ved Osensjøen i Åmot, gjennom sideelvene Søndre Rena og Osa, og videre et stykke nedover hovedvassdraget, Glomma. Ljøstad fotograferte både på svarthvittfilm, som man visste hadde lang levetid, og med fargediasfilm, som ikke hadde samme holdbarhet, men var et ypperlig hjelpemiddel når fløtinga skulle formidles i foredrag. Dette er et av diasopptakene.
