Fabrikkbygget ved Haugfossen, i nærheten av Blaafarveværket, hadde rommet en dukkefabrikk som hadde startet i Bærum som Sandvika dukkefabrikk, og solgt til Thor Jørgensen i Modum i 1956 under navnet Simoa. Denne bedriften gikk konkurs året etter. Elektrokontakt fikk i 1964 tilbud om lokalene som en første test på om produksjonslokaler i Modum til avlastning for hovedfarbikken i Sandvika kunne ha noe for seg. Det ble opptakten til bygging av helt ny fabrikk som åpnet i 1970.
Bygget ble kalt Åmot I, og hadde i 1969 33 kvinner og 4 menn i arbeid med å lage ledningsbrytere. vanntette stikkontakter, plugger, koblingsstykker og S-deler til eget bruk. Hele fabrikken var på 200 kv. pluss 300 kvm. lager.
