Aksesjonen omfattar møblar og gjenstandar frå heimen til Leigh-familien i Rønneberghuset på Årvoll i Sogndal.
Leigh-familien høyrde til i dei øvre sosiale lag i Sogndal. Leigh-familien hadde eit stort sosialt engasjement og omsut for «vanlege» folk i bygda, og då særleg for vanskelegstilte kvinner.
Dottera i Leigh-familien, Anna Margrethe Louise Leigh Rønneberg (1839-1915), arva Årvoll. Ho testamenterte noko av eigedomen sin til eit «veldædigt Øiemed» og ville at den skulle vera eit «Rekonvaleseenthjem for Kvinder og tillegges Bergens Diakonissehjem og dets Klinikk». I testamenet frå 1908 stod det: «Jeg ønsker, at Hjemmet,(…) skal staa aabent for enhver brav hjertedannet Kvinde lige meget, hvilken Samfundsklasse hun maatte tilhøre…».
Bergen Diakonissehjem i Bergen dreiv eigedomen fram til 1940. Men det vart vanskeleg å driva heimen frå Bergen, og difor vart Leighs Legat oppretta, med eit eige styre.
