Sverre Dahl´s Storurmakeri var en familiebedrift med tre generasjoner håndverkere. Johs. Dahls åpnet sin urmakerforretning i Moss i 1910. Da designet og produserte Johs. egne tårnursverk og stueur. Johs Dahl ble en ledende urmaker i najonal målestokk.
Sønnen Einar overtok forretningen med armbandsur og briller etc, mens Sverre fortsatte produksjonen av egne tårnur og gulvur, samt spesialiserte seg på restaurering av de store urverkene. Han utviklet også forskjellige typer industriprodukter. Sverres datter Bente og hennes mann Alf Heitmann samt Jon Øyvind Dahl (også 3. generasjon Dahl), har drevet forretningen som storurmakere.
Dahl har konstruert og levert en rekke urverk til kirker og rådhus fra Vardø i nord til Arendal i sør. Av urverk til andre offentlige bygg kan nevnes Glasværksklokka, temperaturmåleren på BB Moss, Moss Rådhus, Sarpsborg kirke, Glemmen kirke i Fredrikstad, Immanuelskirken i Halden, Oslo Børs og Akershus Slott. I tillegg har han hatt en produksjon på over 1000 gulvur som står som tikkende møbel rundt om i norske hjem og på det kongelige slott.
