Mye av tømmeret fra Glommavassdraget, som ble moset for siste gang ved Eidet, skulle slepes langt, til bedrifter i hele Oslofjord-området og i noen tilfeller nedover mot Sørlandet. Slepene måtte følgelig være svært solide. Det ble brukt tre og i noen tilfeller (som her) fire vaiere rundt hver mose, og mosene ble bundet sammen i større slep. De største slepene omfattet opptil 60 moser, fire i bredden og femten i lengden og fire i bredden. Mosene ble holdt i hop av "bind", som ble lagd i smia på Eidet lense. De besto av en høvelig vaierlengde med kjetting i den ene enden og ”kaus” i den andre. Kaus var jernringer som var formet slik at en kunne trekke kjetting gjennom og låse bindet ved å dra en lekk inn i en innvendig forsenkning i ringen. Det ble periodevis produsert en 140-150 slike bind om dagen på Eidet. Bindene representerte for øvrig verdier, og det ble holdt nøye regnskap med at alle kom i retur. Mosene ble bundet sammen til større slep ved hjelp av kraftigere vaiere: "Slepeselen", som gikk rundt slepets ytterkanter, og "renningsrvaiere", som bandt slepene sammen sidevegs. Det trange Rolvsøysundet - passasjen mellom innsjøen Visterflo og Glomma - innebar visse begrensninger for hvor store slepene kunne gjøres. Kraftig vind og grov sjø kunne også skape problemer. De største slepene fra Eidet lense besto av 60 moser som var bundet i hop, fire i bredden og i rekker på femten.
SubjectVenstre del av fronten eller ”hodet” på et oppankret tømmerslep, som antakelig ble lagd ved lenseanlegget på Eidet i Tune i Østfold. Dette fotografiet er tatt noe lengre nede i vassdraget, antakelig ved Kråkerøy. Fotografen har stått på den andre rekka av moser i dette slepet og vendt kameraet forover mot den venstre delen av den fremre moserekka, der kraftige vaiere som ble brukt til å holde slepet sammen var forankret, dels i stokker med noe avvikende retningsorientering. Slepet var sannsynligvis fortøyd i pælerekker som sto noenlunde parallelt med stendene. Inne på land sto det kvitmalte bolighus, de fleste i en og halvannen etasje. Fotografiet er muligens tatt i elveløpet ved Kråkerøy.

Da fløtinga i Glomma ble avviklet i 1985 ble det ordnet slik at fellesfløtingsforeningens arkivsaker ble overlatt til Riksarkivet, som valgte å fortsette å oppbevare dem i det eksisterende arkivrommet ved Fellesfløtingsforeningens kontor på Fetsund. Amanuensis Øivind Vestheim fra Norsk Skogbruksmuseum veiledet lokale prosjektansatte, som startet ordning av materialet. Den daglige forvaltningen av arkivene er seinere overtatt av medarbeidere fra museet som ble etablert på Fetsund lenser i 1990. Fotosamlinga fra Glomma fellesfløtingsforening ble overført til daværende Norsk Skogbruksmuseum i Elverum. Materialet består av 72 album. Motivene er fra hele Glommavassdraget, samt fra ymse ekskursjonsreiser fløtingsfunksjonærene deltok i langs andre vassdrag. Museumsfotograf OT Ljøstad har reprodusert de fleste av opptakene i dette materialet og skrevet negativnummere i albumene han har utført repro fra. Det finnes også originalnegativer til en del av motivene. Disse skal være merket og ordnet i mapper etter at de kom til museet.
Other informationJohs. Johannesen ble født i Oslo 16. mai 1877. Han tok artium i 1895, og tre år seinere ble han uteksaminert som bygningsingeniør fra Kristiania tekniske skole. Deretter var han ansatt ved Gleim og Eyde i Lübeck, seinere ved Eydes ingeniørkontor i Kristiania. I perioden 1900-01 studerte han ved den tekniske høgskolen i Dresden. I 1902 ble han fløtingsinspektør i Glomma-vassdraget, og fire år seinere ble han utnevnt til direktør i Christiania Tømmerdirektion, seinere kalt Glomma Fellesfløtingsforening. Denne stillingen hadde han fram til våren 1948, da han nådde aldersgrensen. Johannesen var ofte medlem av ulike tekniske kommisjoner, både i og utenfor fløtingsvesenet. Han skal blant annet ha høstet anerkjennelse for den innsatsen han gjorde i grenseforhandlinger med Russland. Johannesen var medlem av hovedstyret i Norsk Ingeniørforening fra 1925 til 1933, og i de tre siste åra av denne perioden var han styreleder med tittelen "president". Johs.
