- Elgoksen er støpt i bronse, på ei rektangulær plate i samme materiale, som igjen er montert på en noe større betongsokkel. Skule Waksvik fylte 50 år i 1978, og dette ble markert med en utstilling i Kunstnerforbundets lokaler i Oslo. En av dem som besøkte utstillingen var Jon Hoel, som da var leder i Nedre Glommen skogeierforening. Han ble spesielt fascinert av en elgfamilie Waksvik hadde modellert. Hoel tenkte at slike elger, i full størrelse, ville kunne bli en attraksjon på Norsk Skogbruksmuseum. Han drøftet saken med daværende disponent og styreleder i Glommen Skogeierforening. Begge de nevnte skogeierforeningene gav tilsagn om bidrag til finansiering av elgskulpturer på museet. Også Haldenvassdragets Skogeierforening bidro. Da også Elverum Sparebank og Norges Skogeierforbund bevilget penger til formålet, var det 500 000 kroner på prosjektkontoen. Dermed kunne Skule Waksvik innlede samarbeid med et metallstøperi i Milano om produksjon av en elgfamilie med to kalver, kolle og okse i full størrelse. Våren 1982 ble elgene montert på Norsk Skogbruksmuseums tomt mot Solørvegen, med kolla i front, kalvene mellom og oksen bakerst. Skulpturene ble avduket av fylkesmann Oddvar Nordli og elever fra Frydenlund skole i Elverum i samband med museets representantskapsmøte 16. juni 1982. Siden den gangen har elgskulpturene vært et populært fotoobjekt. Skulpturgruppa var også i mange år på forsidebildet til museets trykte «Fører gjennom samlingene». Her knyttet man følgende kommentar til bildet: «Elgen er ikke bare vår viktigste viltart, men er også skogkongen, og symboliserer både norske jakt- og skogbrukstradisjoner. Den er et velegnet symbol for museet og et gedigent kunstverk. »
