Elektrolysen gjekk føre seg i eit sett av rektangulære celler der det står tett i tett med anoder og katoder. Katodene er laga av aluminium, anodene av bly. Når straum vert sendt gjennom cellene vert sinkmetall redusert ut av katodene, medan det samstundes vert produsert oksygen på anoden.
Etter moderniseringa på 1970-talet, vart på "Serie 4" katodene med sinkbelegget heist inn til strippemaskiner, der sinken vart teken vekk frå katodeplata, før denne vart heist attende til elektrolysecella for å produsera meir sink. Anoder og celler måtte reinskast, noko som gjekk føre seg manuelt.

Selskapsdame for baronesse Olga Julioff i Boris Gleb, senere i Berlevåg. Emigrerte til Amerika 12. mars 1918. Kom tilbake til Norge og Odda i 1920 (folketelling 1920 for 1228 Odda herred). Flyttet til Østerrike i 1930, til Kenya under 2. verdenskrig, der hun døde i 1956, 80 år gammel.
