Skodespelar Rasmus Breistein ved "Det Norske Teatret" tok initiativ til filming av "Brudefærden i Hardanger" etter Kristoffer Jansons fortelling "Marit Skjølte". Filmen vart spelt inn i Sørfjorden i Hardanger, dels på Tokheim i Odda, dels i Ullensvang frå 4. juli 1925. Som bryllupstun valde ein det gamle klyngetunet på Aga, kyrkja dei nytta var Ullensvang kyrkje på Lofthus. Om lag 400 statistar og skodespelarar tok del i brudeferda. Dei kvinnelege hovudrollane hadde Gunhild Schytte Jacobsen frå Centralteatret og Aase Bye frå Nationalteatret. Oscar Larsen frå Nationalteatret, Vilhelm Lund og Alfred Maurstad frå Det Norske Teatret, Henry Gleditsch frå Stavanger Teater og teatersjef Rasmus Rasmussen frå Trondhjems Teater dei mannlege hovudrollane. Filming av interiørscenar vart lagd til Skøien i Oslo.
