Tyssedal gard er nemnd fyrste gong i skriftlege kjelder i 1320. Garden hadde ein humlehage og her dreiv dei med fruktdyrking. Plassen Naustbakken nede ved fjorden høyrde også til garden. Mikkel Tyssedal var ødegardsmann på garden i 1603. Siste gardbrukar var Kristen Tyssedal som i 1911 selde garden til AS Tyssefaldene for kr. 250 000, men han beheldt gardshusa. Det eldste huset på garden reknast i dag å vera stabburet. Det er frå middelalderen og er freda. Elles er her løe med svære gråsteinsmurar, stall og bu. Bua har tømra kjerne datert 1850 - årstalet er kledd inn. På hovudhuset er det rissa inn 1776. Utforminga vi ser i dag, kom til etter 1900-skiftet. Klassisistiske hovudmotiv dominerer bygget, men har forsiktige innslag av nasjonal sveitserstil i detaljane. Kårstova blei i 1913 bygd om til ingeniørbustad for ing. P.J. Brekke. Garden er del av området som er regulert til spesialområde vern.
Rundt århundreskiftet 1900 starta Kristen Tyssedal eigen skule - Stanakrinsen - på lemmen i hovudhuset.Fotografering: 1905 (ca)
