Disse bildene er i hovedsak tatt av statlige skogfunksjonærer og utsendinger fra Skogdirektørens kontor (senere Direktoratet for statens skoger) i forbindelse med befaringsreiser. Negativsamlinga, med samme nummerering, er også avlevert til museet, men mye mangler og mye er dårlig bevart, blant annet fordi at opptakene i hovedsak er gjort på nitratfilm. Dette bildet har bevart originalnegativ. Negativet ligger, sammen med en løs kopi, innpakket i en fotostatkopi av et brev fra skogforvalter Asbjørn Storrusten i en av brevordnerne med løskopier.
Statskogsamlinga inneholder også et større antall diaskopier, samt originale positivkopier utenfor katalogsystemet, men med samme originalnummerering fra DSS. Samlinga omfatter dessuten et betydelig antall nyere positivkopier som er registrert på emne og person hos DSS, uten egne nummer.
