Anlegget Solhålå tilhører gårdene Vea, som ligger sørøst i Veavågen. I bygdebok for Karmøy, Åkra, er naustmiljøet nevnt i beskrivelsen av Vea-gårdene: «Det eldste tunet ligg like sørvest for Kalvaberg med kort veg ned til Veavågen der fleire gamle naust framleis vitnar om kva sjøen – fisket og sjøfarten – hadde å seia for Veabuen».
De to naustene som ligger i bakkant ble bygget først. Vi vet ikke nøyaktig når, og bygningsmetoden går tilbake til vikingtiden med steinmurer og saltak. Trekonstruksjonene i takene er fra siste halvdel av 1800-tallet. I naustene ble båtene lagret når de ikke var i bruk, og det ble drevet sildesalting vinterstid. På loftet ble fiskeredskapen oppbevart. Anlegget tilhører tre bruk av gården Vea og har vært i bruk som et felleseie, både til arbeid og som samlingssted. P
På 1870-tallet ble anlegget utvidet med to sjøhus som ble bygget foran naustene, delvis ute i sjøen. På denne tiden ble fiskenæringen modernisert og det ble behov for større lagringsplass for redskap. Sjøhusene er i halvannen etasje med mye gulvplass. Her ble det også saltet sild. Sjøhusene har stavkonstruksjon med grinder, stavlei og sperr. Slik konstruksjon har røtter til forhistorisk tid. Bruken av liggende og stående panel synes tilfeldig.
Svalgangene er til å tørke garn i. Under gulvet i hvert av sjøhusene er det brønn til å skylle garn i. Ellers ble sjøhusene disponert på samme måte som naustene. Bruk av tegl på takene går på Karmøy tilbake til første del av 1800-tallet. De små lyse teglpannene i Solhålå er importert fra Holland. De lange mørke pannene kommer fra Sandnes og Bø.
