Tusjtegningen ble tatt inn i museets samlinger i 1893. Den ble gitt til museet av Johan Koren Christie som i 1891 initierte opprettelsen av Skiens Museum. Samlingene herfra er nå en del av Telemark Museums samlinger (med registrering TGM-SM).
Ved inntaket av denne tegningen ble det registrert at den var laget av professor J. Dahl, bedre kjent som I. C. Dahl. Overlærer og lokalhistoriker J. A. Schneider hevder derimot på en merkelapp på bildets bakside at det er "tegnet av H. Ibsens mor". Schneider refererer til Den kulturhistoriske Udstillings afdeling for Skien og Skiensfjorden fra 1901 (nummer 241b på side 35).
Sannsynligvis tar Schneider feil. Katalogen opplyser at bildet Schneider har sett er i fru Stouslands eie (altså Hedvig Stousland, Henrik Ibsens søster), mens denne tusjtegningen var allerede registrert i museets samlinger i 1901.
Arnulf Rafgård skriver på side 16 i boken Hundre år på Brekke at ingeniør Johan Koren Christie (1827-1907) «vokste opp i en familiekrets med nær kontakt med alt som betød noe innenfor det bergenske (norske) kunst og kulturmiljø». Det er grunn til å tro at han også kjente arbeidene til bergenseren Johan Christian Dahl (1788 – 1857), som ifølge Norsk biografisk leksikon (nbl.snl.no) var «den første norske maler som vant berømmelse og kulturell status i utlandet».
Tegningen ble vist som en del av utstillingen i Henrik Ibsens barndomshjem på 1970-tallet.
