Krukken har tilhørt Henrik Ibsens tante, Christine Stenersen (født Altenburg). Christine bodde i Altenburggården i Skien frem til hun giftet seg i 1827 med skipsfører John Stenersen i Porsgrunn. Christine ble tidlig enke. Hun ble boende i Porsgrunn sammen med sine to barn, Johan og Hanna (gift Brønlund). Christine Stenersens mor, altså Henrik Ibsens mormor, flyttet inn til datteren da familien Ibsen overtok Altenburggården i 1830. Henrik Ibsens søster, Hedvig, skal også ha tilbragt deler av barndommen sin hos tante Christine Stenersen i Porsgrunn.
Krukken kom inn til museet i 1955, og ble registrert som en gave fra Hedvig Stouslands stiftelse. Stiftelsen ble opprettet av konsul Carl Stousland, som før sin død i 1941 gav bort huset «Villa Hedvig» i Skien, hvor han selv hadde bodd sammen med søsteren, Anna Stousland, og deres mor, Hedvig Stousland (født Ibsen). Den romslige villaen på Falkum skulle brukes som et hvilehjem for ubemidlede kvinner og stå som et minne over hans mor. Hvilehjemmet ble drevet av Røde Kors fra 1955. Fra 1973 ble huset drevet som «eldrepensjonat» av menighetspleien i Skien. Mot slutten av 1980-tallet ble villaen solgt og er i dag en privat bolig.
Hedvig Stousland, som hvilehjemmet ble oppkalt etter, var søsteren til Henrik Ibsen. Hun ble født i 1831 da familien bodde i Altenburggården i Skien sentrum. I deler av barndommen bodde hun sammen med sin mormor Hedvig Altenburg (født Paus), tante Christine Stenersen, kusine Hanna Brønlund (født Stenersen) og fetter Johan Stenersen i Porsgrunn, men hun bodde også i flere år på Venstøp og er en viktig kilde til anekdoter fra Henrik Ibsens barndom. Hedvig Stousland var en engasjert tilhenger av utbryterpresten Gustav Adolf Lammers, og ble senere et sentralt medlem i dissentermenigheten. Hun giftet seg med Hans Jacob Stousland i 1860 og fikk til sammen fire barn med ham. Tre av dem vokste opp, Carl, Anna og Johan Stousland. Som gammel dame bodde Hedvig Stousland i «Villa Hedvig» på Falkum, vest for Skien sentrum, sammen med sine barn Carl og Anna.
