Rokken har tilhørt Henrik Ibsens mormor, Hedvig Altenburg (født Paus). Hun var ikke bare moren til Henrik Ibsens mor, Marichen, men hun var også søster til Knud Ibsens stefar, Ole Paus. Paus-navnet var på midten av 1700-tallet kjent som en forvalter- og embetsmannsslekt i Øvre Telemark, men mot slutten av århundret flyttet Hedvig, Ole og deres søster, Martha Corneliusdatter Paus for å etablere seg blant by-patrisierne i Skien.
Du finner mer informasjon om Hedvig Altenburg i boken Familien Ibsen av konservator Jørgen Haave ved Telemark Museum. Boken kom ut på Museumsforlaget i 2017 og omtaler Henrik Ibsens mormor på sidene 34-36, 43, 45, 50-51, 72, 74 og 129.
Kvinner fra patrisierkulturen administrerte arbeidet i husholdningen, men deltok ikke selv i de praktiske gjøremålene. Unntaket fra dette var lettere arbeid med tekstiler, som brodering, sying og strikking. Maren Fransisca Paus´ dagbok Fra en svunden tid, nevner for eksempel strikking på side 26 (den 25. januar). Boken ble utgitt av Skiensfjordens Presse i Skien 1937.
Rokken ble solgt til museet i 1921 av Anna Brønlund. Hun var datter av Henrik Ibsens kusine, Hanna Brønlund (f. Stenersen). Telemark Museum har et brev som Henrik Ibsen skrev til Hanna ved hennes konfirmasjon i 1845. Dokumentet er en del av museets håndskriftsamling og er registrert som TGM-HD.178. Museet har også et malt portrett av Hanna som barn. Maleriet er registrert som TGM-BM.1930-31:086.
