- Gjenstanden er en del av et autentisk interiør i Gaukstadsmia på Maihaugen. Gaukstadsmia var verksted for landbruksredskaper, hjulmaker, salmaker og hovslager, grunnlagt av Sigvart Gaukstad (1868 – 1937) i 1892. Smia lå i Tomtegata 5 på Lillehammer. Det var 6-7 ansatte i smia på det meste. Sammen med kona Mathea Kindsbakken (f. 1863) hadde Gaukstad fem barn. Sønnen Sverre overtok smia i 1937, og drev den fram til 1970. Senere fikk Maihaugen overta bygningene, med fullt utstyr.
