Åmdals Koparverk i dagens Tokke kommune er eit bergverk med ei historie attende til 1691. Drifta var prega av skiftande eigarskap, oppgang og nedgang. På det meste skal over 400 mann ha vore i arbeid ved gruvene, som var i drift – med fleire opphald – til 1945. Samfunnet som vaks fram rundt gruvedrifta var særeigent og fargerikt.
Verket hadde sin gullalder i andre halvdel av 1800-talet, med kontinuerleg drift gjennom fleire tiår under engelske eigarar. I 1870- og 1880-åra blei det investert i nytt utstyr som auka effektiviteten. Toppåret i denne perioden var 1884, med over 300 tilsette. Fram til 1907 hadde verket eigen skule. I tillegg hadde dei fattigvesen og eigen lege ved verket.
Siste driftsperiode var under 2. verdskrig. I 1945 blei gruvedrifta lagt ned for godt. Totalt har det blitt tatt ut om lag 1 million tonn bergmasse og truleg utvunne meir enn 8000 tonn kopar.
Gruvemuseet blei bygd opp av lokale eldsjeler frå tidleg på 1980-talet. Sidan 1991 har det vore museum for arbeidarkultur og gruvedrift i Vest-Telemark under namnet Åmdals Verk gruver, og er no ein del av stiftinga Vest-Telemark Museum.
