Mens flyplassdebatten går varmt på Helgeland, kan det jo være artig å mimre litt om forarbeidet til dagens flyplass på Kjærstad. Disse bildene er tatt i mai 1977 da jordstyret var på befaring sammen med ordfører og etatsjefer. Og dette var altså ti år før flyplassen ble åpnet.
Herredsagronom Torbjørn Vatshaug var opptatt av at flyplassen ville legge beslag på 230 dekar mark, hvorav 40 dekar dyrket jord. Men jordstyret anbefalte likevel omdisponering av arealene.
Teknisk rådmann Per Simonsen var mer opptatt av regularitet. Han mente at utredningene som viste at Kjærstad bare ville få en regularitet på 90 prosent var for pessimistiske. Han viste til Røssvoll i Rana der det ble sagt at flyplassen ville få en regularitet på 87 prosent. I praksis har flyplassen hatt en regularitet på 95 prosent, noe som er godt. Simonsen mente at noe tilsvarende ville vise seg å bli tilfelle for Kjærstad, og han fikk jo helt rett.
