Anders Andreassen var sjefsbiblotekar (biblioteksjef) på Rjukan Bibliotek fra 1936 til 1954, en stilling han overtok etter Henrik Hjartøy som bygget opp "Det Røde bibliotek". Anders Andreassen hadde et særlig engasjement i "Det røde bibliotek" og førte det videre i sin til ved biblioteket.
Han og kona, Aase Andreassen, bodde i tredje etasje på Rjukan bibliotek sammen med deres deres to døtre.
Under okkupasjonen ble han av tyskerne sett på som en farlig mann på grunn av sitt engasjement i "det Røde bibliotek", han mistet sin stilling med umiddelbar virkning. Familien mistet også sitt bosted.
Anders måtte finne nytt arbeid og fikk en intendantfunksjon for anskaffelse av mat til anleggsarbeidere i øvre del av fylket, primært Vest-Telemark og Tinn og da særlig til anleggene på Mår/Kalhovd og Møsvannsdammen.
Familien fikk en periode fra april til november 1942 bo på en støyle, Sneiselia som lå der Skinnarbu Høyfjellshotell ligger i dag. Der fikk de imidlertid ikke bo i vintermånedene. De fikk derfor en god avtale med bestyrerinne Magnhild Lofthus på Rjukan Hotell om å få bo der under vinteren. I 1943 flyttet familien til Krosso, Fossoveien 10.
Etter sabotasjeaksjonene mot Rjukan og Vemork i 1943 var Anders en av de første 11 som ble arrestert av Tyskerne. Han ble imidlertid sluppet fri igjen etter noen dager. Andre gangs arrestasjon skjedde 23.03.1943, og han ble da sendt til Grini. Der satt han frem til 22. desember 1943 da han ble sluppet fri i noe som muligens kunne ha vært et juleamnesti. Anders var etter løslatelsen en kort tid hos foreldre og svigerforeldre i hjembyen Fredrikstad. Utpå våren gikk han i dekning med flere venner på en seter i Valdres inntil de ble oppdaget av tyskerne og klarte å rømme østover mot Sverige.
I mellomtiden hadde også kone, Aase, og datter, Turid, fått beskjed om å flykte til Sverige. Hverken Aase eller Anders visste i perioden april-juni 1944 hvor den andre var, om de var i live og/eller i sikkerhet i Sverige, da Aase og Turid kom til Kjæseter i midten av juni 1944. Da kone og barn ankom Kjæseter hadde de ingen papirer og Aase måtte prøve å fremskaffe bevis på hvem de var via en bekjent i Stockholm. Dette førte til at familien igjen ble gjenforent via denne bekjente.
Anders og Aase jobbet begge i Stockholm fra juni 1944 og frem til krigens slutt. Anders med å forberede igangsetting av norske biblioteker igjen etter krigen.
Etter frigjøringen fikk Anders tilbake sin jobb på Rjukan Bibliotek og familien flyttet på ny inn i leiligheten i tredje etasje.

Produksjon
