  • I am the proud owner of the original painting by William Gay Yorke, done in 1877. My great-great-grandfather Gustav Bernard Johannessen captained the ship from 1875-1889.
  • Hi Anne, I am so happy to know you are the proud owner of this painting. Gustav Bernard Johannessen is my great-great grandfather too. I have wondered for many years what happened to this painting, where it may have found a good home. My grandfather was (Even) Earnest Johannessen, son of Johanne Nielssen and Gustav, born on September 12, 1883, whom I am named after. My grandfather owned this painting for many years and gave it to his son, my uncle Bernhard, who worked with him at his Johannessen Brother's Hardware store in Baltimore, Md. I photographed this painting at my uncle Burnie's apartment in Baltimore many years ago before his passing. I was so fascinated with such a gripping tale of our family history. I lost track of uncle Burnie and his wife along the way after I began a filming career, which took me all over the map. Always wishing to know what happened to this painting. I was searching the history of Skib Guldbringa which led me to you and answered more questions about the ship. I would love to have an opportunity to connect with you and talk more about our family history. Please let me know if you would be interested in reaching out to me. I would appreciate your consideration. Thanks!

  • I would love to make contact.
  • Hi Anne and Robert, my great great grandfather is also Gustav Bernard Johannesen, the captain of the Guldbringa. I just recently starting looking into the history of this ship. My grandfather was John G Johannesen, brother of Earnest. I would love to make contact with either (or both) of you!
