Etter det 11. norske legemøte i Trondheim sommeren 1905 drog 78 leger med ledsagere, til sammen 138 personer, nordover til Kirkenes med D/S Hera, som var hyret for anledningen. Turen startet kvelden 19.juli og varte i 11 dager. For en stor del gjorde båten de samme stoppene og de reisende de samme utfluktene som Hurtigrutenpassasjerer i dag.
Nordkapp ble nådd 23. juli 1905 og dette ble markert med champagne, taler og sanger. Skipet ankret opp i Hornvika, der passasjerene ble satt i land med småbåter. Derfra gikk det sti opp til platået.
Hele reise ble dokumentert i en egen bok, skrevet av Isak Kobro, som beskriver turen nordover, og Rasmus Hansson, som beskriver turen sørover. Hansson var generalsekretær i Legeforeningen og Kobro assistenten for generalsekretæren.
De fleste bildene fra turen ble tatt av deltakerne.

Fra 1910 av ble D/S Hera brukt som hurtigruteskip for Det Bergenske Dampskibsselskabet.
