Fotoarkivet etter "Norsk Bjergningskompagni A/S" består i all hovedsak av foto brukt i bokverket "Bjergningsvesens historie", som utkom i årene 1941-1966. Samlingen består av glassdias.
Norsk Bjergningskompagni A/S ble etablert i 1912 med hovedkontor i Oslo, og med stasjoner i Moss, Bergen og Trondheim. Selskapet hadde hele den norske kysten som arbeidsområde, og fikk etter hvert også fartøy som var stasjonert på Svalbard i sommersesongen. Bjergningskompagniet ble til etter en sammenslåing av tre norske bergingsselskaper. Nordenfjeldske Dykkerselskab hadde fire bergingsbåter (NIDAROS, PARAT, STÆRKODDER og NAP), lektere og utstyr. Vestenfjeldske (SALVATOR) hadde fire båter (JASON, ACHILLES, HERKULES og VIDAR) med utstyr. Moss Værft, Bjergnings- og Dykker Co. hadde fire båter (URÆD, NEPTUN, TRYGVE og TROLD), samt fem løftefartøy og annet bergingsutstyr. Sammenslåingen av selskapene ble utløst av et forsøk fra dansk side på å overta Moss Værft.
I 1917 overtok Norsk Bjergningskompagni aksjemajoriteten i dykker- og vrakopptakingsselskapet A/S Tjørve. Mot slutten av 1920-årene fikk selskapet store økonomiske vanskeligheter, og gikk i likvidasjonsforhandlinger sommeren 1928. En gruppe fra Bergen rundt Kristofer Lehmkuhl, Fredrik Odfjell, Albert Vedeler og Ole Friele meldte interesse for en rekonstruksjon av selskapet. Gruppen forhandlet med Centralbanken, som var største kreditor, og overtok det gamle selskapets flåte fra 1. januar 1929. Bergensgruppen krevde at selskapets hovedkontor ble flyttet til Bergen, og slik ble det.
