RØDBERGAN

The division commander of Brigade 6 planned an attack against the German forces in Gratangsbotn on the 17th of April 1940. It was received by the subdivision of the brigade on the evening of the 22nd of April. The attack was scheduled to start the night between the 23rd and the 24th of April. Major Bøckman, leader of the Trønder Battalion, received the order to take over the guard post of Fjordbotneide on the 20th of April. The 23rd of April the Trønder Battalion marched up Rødbergan towards Fjordbotneidet, in a blizzard, with approximately 40 kg kit, including Weapons. The Alta Battalion marched from Tennevoll at 08.30am on the 24th of April. The area was covered in up to two meters of snow, and they went up on skis, through thick snow bringing their horses with them.

From Skavmodalen and up to Fjordbotneidet there is an elevation from 94 m.a.s.l. to 372 m.a.s.l. in approximately 1 km, making this a steep climb.
