Lysekronen hang i Tinghuset i Trondheim fra 1951 til 1994 da den ble gitt til museet. Den kom til det nye Tinghuset da Lagmannsrettens bruk av lokalene i Tukthuset fra 1730-tallet i Erling Skakkes gate 60 opphørte. Lokalene i Tuktuset ble tatt i bruk
som rettssal omkring 1920. Tidligere var dette kirkesal. Lysekronens opprinnelige plassering er ukjent.
