Carl E. Buch opticus AS ble etablert i 1908 og holdt til i Kirkegaten 3 i Stavanger fra 1921.
Firmaet var en fortsettelse av instrumentmaker Oluf Glad Bache som ble etablert i 1885 i Skagen 5, Stavanger. I 1908 overtok instrumentmaker Carl Emil Buch (1887- 1928) forretningen.
Carl E. Buch drev fra starten av verksted for nautiske instrumenter, motorer, radioer, antenner, akkumulatorer og anodebatterier, men gikk etter hvert over til optikk. Etter Buchs død overtok kona Dagny Buch (1885-1980) forretningen.
I 1939 overtok sønnen Carl Rolf Buch, optiker og nautisk instruementmaker, forretningen. I 1986 overtok bedriftens ansatte forretningen.
Flere av Stavangers opitkere har hatt opplæring hos Carl E. Buch opticus.
