Tekst 1: Martinot, Balhazar à Paris, 1635-1695, Juré in 1678. Clockmaker to Louis XIV. "One of the principal Paris makers" (Ballie) He belonged to a family of famous clockmakers in the 17th and 18th century. Represented in museums and private collections in Europe and USA. Martinot's cases were mostly made by Boulle. The last owner was the Norwegian soprano Kirsten Flagstad who bought it in USA. There the clock had been at least since 1863, it was sold at the Wolfe sale, New York, Dec. 22-23 1863. Elsie de Wolfe had acquired the clock at the sale of de Crissey collection. It had been in the family of the Crissey through marriage with de Broglie family, whose family was presented with it by Louis XIV. The allegory of the broces is: "Le Trois Parques", Clotho preside at the birth of Man holding the spindle, Lachesis winding and Atropos cutting the thread of Life. Surmounted by a figurine of Minerva.

Magnificent case of tortoise shell and brass inlay with chiselled gilt bronze mounts representing "Les Trois Parques", Clotho who presides at the birth of Man, holding the quenouille, Lachesis winding and Atropos cutting the thresd of Life. Surmounted by a figure of Minerva. Signed on the back-plate. With bracket. (De Crissey)

Vose Galleries of Boston, Inc.: Opplysninger om et maleri av George Washington, malt av Gilbert Stuart, om proveniens: blant annet solgt til John Wolfe i 1853, solgt fra John Wolfe i 1863, ellers uvisst om dette har noe å gjøre med selve klokken.
