Simon assumes that he is identical with the John Brydon, carver and gilder, who in 1780 took out insurance at 48 Brewer St with the Sun Fire Office, and suggests other possible identifications and connections. Trading from Charing Cross by 1783; 1800, advertised that he had opened a house for furnishing funerals at 4 Charing Cross, where J. Brydon junr was in attendance; 1801, bankrupt and his extensive stock-in-trade advertised for sale, including paintings, drawings, engravings, copperplates, paper, printing presses and picture frames (The Times 3 September 1801), as was the lease of his 'substantial' house and shop (The Times 14 September 1801); continued to make payments to creditors until 5 June 1804 (Maxted 1977 p.33). The business was listed as Brydon & Co, print merchant, 1802-1805, in some directories (Kilde: http://www.britishmuseum.org/research/search_the_collection_database/term_details.aspx?bioId=73519).
