I forbindelse med fornyelse og revisjon av konsesjon (sektoravgift) for Vinstravassdraget i Øystre Slidre, Nord-Fron, Sør-Fron og Vang kommuner i daværende Oppland fylke, nå Innlandet, foretok KHM og OFK arkeologiske registeringer og utgravninger i perioden 2013-2016. Rapporten (Friis 2021a) presenterer de samlede resultatene fra KHM og OFK sine undersøkelser. NMM har levert egne årsrapporter fra sine undersøkelser (Melsom og Wammer 2014, Wammer og Melsom 2015, Wammer 2016). Det ble registrert 33 steinalderlokaliteter, fire fangstgraver, to graver, to jernfremstillingsanlegg, to kullfremstillingsanlegg og to bogasteller, som ikke var kjent fra før. Totalt ble 40 steinalderlokaliteter undersøkt. 19 av disse ligger ved Vinstervatn, elleve ved Kaldfjorden, åtte ved Olstappen og en ved Bygdin og en ved Øyangen. Funnmateriale er variert og de fleste lokalitetene kan knyttes til jakt på elg eller reinsdyr. Det ble også gjort funn som kan tyde på ørretfiske i vassdraget allerede på slutten av yngre steinalder. Fra 18 lokaliteter foreligger det totalt 76 C14-dateringer som spenner fra slutten av tidlig mesolitikum til førromersk jernalder. Ved Vinstervatn ble to graver fra merovingertid/vikingtid ble undersøkt. I tillegg ble to fangstgraver undersøkt, hvor den ved Olstappen ble datert til middelalder og den ved Vinstervatn til nyere tid. Alle osteologiske analyser har blitt utført ved Seksjon for paleobiologi og geologi, Avdeling for naturhistorie ved Universitetet i Bergen. Vedartsanalysene har blitt foretatt ved avdeling for konservering og naturvitenskap ved Moesgaard Museum i Danmark. C14-dateringene ble foretatt ved Uppsala Universitet i Sverige i 2013 og 2014, ved Beta Analytic Inc. i USA i 2015 og 2016, og ved Laboratoriet for C14-datering ved Lunds Universitet i Sverige i 2018. Det har blitt laget en egen appendix (Friis 2021b) for alle vedlegg som viser resultatene fra de naturvitenskapelige analysene, samt tilveksttekstene for C-numrene knyttet til alle de undersøkte lokalitetene.
Olstappen V ble registrert i 2014 og ble undersøkt samme året. Lokalitetsavgrensningen er på ca. 2700 m2, dette inkluderer både en lang strekning av skråningen ned mot opprinnelig strandlinje, samt en stor flate innenfor. Det ble gjort funn av både artefakter og strukturer i skråningen, blant annet flere konsentrasjoner med skjørbrent stein. På flaten innenfor ble det gjort flere overflatefunn, mange av de i konsentrasjoner. All torv var erodert vekk som på de andre lokalitetene ved Olstappen. Likevel så det ut til at noen områder, spesielt inne på flaten var overlagret av sand. I skråningen var mye av løsmassene vasket vekk, og et langt «belte» med skjørbrent stein var synlig. Det ble totalt gjort 264 littiske funn på Olstappen V. Det kan spores minst tre ulike bruksfaser. En tidlig i mellom- og senmesolitikum, trolig to i mellomneolitikum og en litt senere i senneolitikum eller tidlig bronsealder. Den mest omfattende aktiviteten ser ut til å ha foregått i mellomneolitikum, ca. 2500-3000 f.Kr. Da ser vi spor etter produksjon av redskaper av skifer, flint og kvartsitt, som i all hovedsak kan knyttes til jakt. Beinmaterialet forteller at både elg og reinsdyr har vært utnyttet. Det ble ikke gjort funn av fiskebein, men funn av deler av en fiskekrok og de to fiskesøkkene tyder på at også fiske har vært viktig ved Olstappen i denne perioden.Funnet
