Kvannstranddamkoia er, som navnet antyder, ei fløterkoie som opprinnelig har stått ved Kvann-stranddamen i elva Stor-Grøna i Trysil. Ideen om en dam i dette vassdraget ble først lansert omkring 1850, men den ble ikke realisert før det svenske Mölnbacka-konsernet finansierte prosjektet i 1885-86. Muligens ble koia bygd samtidig med dammen, men da den skulle flyttes til museet ble det fra tradisjonsbærerhold antydet at det kunne tenkes at koia kan ha hatt ei fortid på ei anna tomt, kanskje omkring 1860, og at den ble flyttet til Kvannstranddammen og innredet for damvokterne der i samband med damprosjektet. En dendrokronologisk analyse av stokker som antas å være originale vil antakelig kunne gi en indikasjon på hvordan dette forholder seg. For museet er imidlertid ikke det eksakte byggeåret så viktig i denne sammenhengen. Hovedpoenget har vært å vise hvordan mannskapene ved dammene i østnorske sidevassdrag bodde på slutten av 1800-tallet. Vi vet at Kvannstranddamkoia ble brukt på denne måten fra midten av 1880-åra til 1923, da man gikk over til å regulere fløtingsvannet i dette vassdraget fra Kaldflodammen i Østre Grøna og Stornesdammen i Vestre Grøna.
Det ble aktuelt å etablere en fløtingsdam med tilhørende antikvariske bygninger på Norsk Skogmuseum etter at det ble bygd en flomvoll mot Prestfossen på nordsida av Prestøya i 1970-71. Bakenfor vollen ble det lagt til rette for et skjermet åløp med en dam nederst. Våren og sommeren 1971 ble Kvannstranddamkoia flyttet hit. To år seinere ble det etablert en nåledam med elementer fra Gammelbudammen i Ringsåsbekken i Elverum like ved koia, og i 1974 ble anlegget komplettert med et redskapshus som også kom fra Gammelbudammen. Det var Norsk Skogbruksmuseums daværende «kontaktmann» i Trysil, Trygve Åsheim, som organiserte mye av flyttinga av Kvannstranddamkoia i forståelse med grunneier Ragnar Kvile. Åsheim sørget også for at denne koia ble den koia på museet som fikk mest innbo.
Kvannstranddamkoia er et enkelt, ettroms laftehus i en etasje med grunnflate på cirka 17,5 kvadratmeter, rafthøyde på om lag 1,5 meter, mønehøyde 2,5 meter og med yttertak som er kledd med halvkløvde stokker, lagt som under- og overliggere med lengderetningen i takets fallretninger. Taket later til å ha blitt omlagt i 1982, ti år etter at Kvannstranddamkoia kom til museet. «Det er lagt ny never, nye moldvarer og moldvarkroker, og over- og underliggerne er festet» heter det i museets årsmelding. Taket ble tydeligvis ikke bra nok, for i 1988 heter det at det hadde vært lekkasje ved pipa og at det var råte i en tilstøtende takås. Åsen ble skiftet, og den nye stokken ble dekt med tjærepapp. Et nytt takbeslag og ny never skulle også bidra til at lekkasjeproblemene opphørte. Neste gang fukt ble årsak til problemer her var under storflommen i 1995, da tre firedeler av Prestøya sto under vann. Mest kritisk var situasjonen nærmest de to fossene som omgir øya, for der var det strid strøm i flomvannet. De antikvariske bygningene ble stroppet fast i steinblokker og trestammer for å hindre at de drev vekk. Etter flommen ble to av de berørte bygningene demonterte og gjenoppført av to innleide handverkere med antikvarisk restaureringskompetanse. Kvannstranddamkoia var ikke blant dem, for her var ikke skadene fra flomvannet åpenbare.
Høsten 2013 tilstandsvurderte tømrer Knut-Arild Nordli de fleste av de antikvariske bygningene på Prestøya. Han konstaterte at stokkene i det sørvestre hjørnet av bygningen, der peisen står, hadde alvorlige sopp- og råteskader. Nordlis hypotese var at skadene skyldtes lekkasjer som hadde oppstått som følge av at den kraftige vannstrømmen under 1995-flommen hadde flyttet litt på den laftete bygningskjernen, noe som fikk pipebeslaget til å revne. Dermed sivet det inn fuktighet i sonen mellom tømmerveggen og murverket, hvor det manglet lufting, noe som påførte laftetømmeret sopp- og råteskader som det tok lang tid før man kunne se fra utsida av bygningen. Nordli anslo at arbeidet ville kreve 630-670 arbeidstimer, avhengig av prosedyrevalg. Norsk Skogmuseum søkte Annos vedlikeholdsfond om restaureringsmidler i 2017, noe som ble innvilget. Knut-Arild Nordli påtok seg oppdraget med Eskild Midtlie fra driftsseksjonen ved Norsk Skogmuseum som assistent.

Da den 17,5 kvadratmeter store koia ble flyttet fra Grønavassdraget i Trysil til museet i 1971 ble gråsteinspeisen gjenoppmurt tett inntil tømmerveggene i det sørvestre hjørnet av bygningen. Lekkasjer ved pipa har seinere ført til store sopp- og råteskader i tømmeret mot muren. Disse skadene kunne ikke repareres uten at bygningen ble demontert for tilpasning av nytt veggtømmer og deretter gjenoppført i museet. Tømrer Knut-Arild Nordli anslo at prosjektet ville kreve 630-670 timer, avhengig av hvordan arbeidet ble lagt an. Norsk Skogmuseum søkte midler fra Anno museums vedlikeholdsfond med sikte på restaurering etter Nordlis plan. Søknaden ble innvilget, og Nordli påtok seg oppdraget med løfte om en viss bistand fra museets driftsavdeling. Demonteringa startet i desember 2016. Nordli nummererte stokkene i endene av novene, og etter å ha demontert taket, ble veggstokkene løftet av, en for en. Det råteskadde tømmeret ble fraktet til museets magasinhall, der nye stokker skulle tilpasses under tak. Tømreren merket stokkene med bokstaver som markerte hvilken vegg de var fra og tall som markerte rekkefølgen fra svillstokkene og oppover.
