• The picture shows AVIEMORE during the period 1905-08 when the ship was active as one of the early floating whale factories at Spitsbergen for Hvalfangerselskabet Alfa & Beta from Sandefjord. The two ships in front should be the whalecatchers ALFA and BETA - obviously distinguished by the funnel signs A and B, a rather unique approach I have not seen applied elsewhere.
