US ARMY TESTS TRANSPORT OF PERSHING MISSILE BY HELICOPTER
The US Army is developing techniques for moving the Pershing missile and its transporter erector-launcher by helicopter to launch sites inaccessible by road. Pershing is a two-stage, solid-fuel, surface-to-surface weapon with a nuclear capability. Designed for use in support of field armies, it has a ballistic range of about 350 miles (550 km). These pictures show recent air transport tests of the highly mobile Pershing system using a CH-47A Chinook helicopter at Orlando, Florida.
