The Rolls-Royce RB 211-535C engine will be lunched in the twin-jet Boeing 757 airliner in 1983.
It is a smaller derivative of the RB 211 which powers the Lockheed Tristar and Boeing 747 airliners and is rated at 37 400 pounds of thrust. It has a smaller fan than its more powerful predecessors but retains the same conbustion system and turbine. The engine is expected tol allow the 757 aircraft to use up to 40 per cent less fuel per passenge mile than the current Boeing 727.
Certification is due mid-1981 when production engiens are scheduled for delivery to Boeing for the start of the test programme.
