THE BAe 146 - BRITAIN'S NEW AIRLINER
Nose sections of Britain's new airliner - the BAe 146 feeder aircraft - are made ready for final assemble at the British Aerospace factory at Hatfield in soiuthern England.
The 146 is designed to replace existing turo-prop and twin-jet airliners on secondary routes and will come in two versions, the 146-100 and the 146-200. Carrying up to 90 passengers and able to operate on both paved and unpaved runways, the 146-100 will give exceptional peformance form high altitude and high temperature airfields and will be able to land or take off from runways less than 3500 ft (1070 m). The 146-200 has a longer fuselage and an increased capacity of up to 109 passenger. It will be capable of short take off and landing from runways lengths of 4000 ft (1219 m).
Jointly produced by Britain, the United States and Sweden, the BAe 146 will be sold on the basis of fuel economy, quietness, comfort and outstanding performance. The BAe 146 has so far attracted interest form over 180 airlines and is scheduled to enter service i 1982.
