Nothing But Blue Sky For Boeing 777.
The No. 1 Boeing 777 climbs through blue sky on one of it's many test flights, part of the most comprehensive test program in avaiation history. As of April 11, 1995, the 777 flight test fleet had conducted 3399 flight cycles, accumulating more than 3000 hours in the air and completed more than 4000 hours of ground testing. The first Boeing 777 took it's maiden voyage June 12, 1994, and has completed 10 months of challenging flight testing, including: flutter tests to assess how the structure responds to high speeds; low-altitude ground-effect tests to evaluate the airplane's handling qualities; minimun takeoff speed tests, brake tests; stability and control tests; and "configuration deviation list" tests to ensure that aerodynamic performance and handling qualities are not disrupted when various components are removed. The overall effort to certify the 777 with Pratt & Whitney, General Electric and Rolls-Royce engies will involve nine airplanes and last through March 1996.
