High-lift devices on the wing trailing edge of the Boeing 737 twinjet are shown at the 25-degree setting during a landing approach. The lowered triple-slotted flaps, inboard and outboard of the tail pipe, provide additional wing area for greater lift and high drag. A flipper flap over the tail pipe has a hinged design which prevents interference with the tale pipe when the flaps are down. It actuates to position shown be movement of the flaps. The flap system can be extended to a 30 or 40 degree setting. Three spoiler panels, outboard of the nacelle and forward of the flaps, serve both as air brakes and leteral control devices. Ground spoilers are inboard of the flight spoilers. The aileron, balance tab and wing tip light can be seen at the outer end of the wing. --Boeing Photo
