Forskar Iris Crouwers har kommentert korsfragmentet og skriv: "... it is quite similar to some of the soapstone wheel-crosses found in Western Norway. I was particularly happy to see the cable mouldings on the narrow face of the cross, a feature that is also present on the wheel-crosses from Kvinnherad, Røldal and Vats, as well as on several disc-headed crosses from Odda. [...] Within Western Norway, the use of cable-mouldings is, thus, restricted to a relatively small area and it is very well possible there is a connection with Eastern Norway here, especially since the distance from Røldal to Nesland is not too large. The diameter of the West-Norwegian wheel-crosses ranges from 26 to 41,5 cm, so the size of the Nesland cross fits well within this range. A date between the (later) twelth to the (early) fourteenth century should be realistic." (ref e-post frå Crouwers 19.09.2013).
