- Kodaks klassiker Brownie ble produsert i over 80 år i ulike modeller. Det første ble lansert i 1900 etter at George Eastman, Kodaks grunnlegger, hadde gitt sin sjefsdesigner, Frank Brownell, i oppdrag å konstruere et kamera som skulle være så enkelt og billig at selv barn skulle kunne fatte interesse for fotografering. Resultatet ble den første modellen av Brownie. Navnet stammer fra en kanadisk forfatter og tegner, Palmer Cox. Hans bøker med vers og tegninger for barn handlet om små eventyrfigurer kalt Brownies. Eastman utnyttet disse figurene popularitet i salgskampanjene for sitt nye kamera.
