Mottatt fra postmester Rødland, Ålesund 6. juni 1946.
Sabelen har tilhørt postskiftet Helstad i Stranda herred. Postskiftet lå i den postruten mellom Bergen og Trondheim som ble opprettet i 1786, og sabelen skal ha vært brukt under postens befordring mellom Helstad og Hellesylt.
