Nordahl var født den 14. mai i 1897 på Bestebostad på Grytøya som sønn av småbruker Ole Mikal Olsen, født i 1867, og hustru Lorentine Albertine Pauline Lorentsdatter, født i 1874 i Sørbogen i Hadsel. Arthur ble gift med Amanda Konstanse, født den 22. juni i 1896 på Bolla i Ibestad.
I yngre år reiste han mye i kystfart. De fleste og senere årene arbeidet han i Transporten på kaia. Han fikk fem barn: Oskar, Herleif, Aksel, Petra og Ida. Arthur Nordahl gikk bort den 30. januar i 1962 i Harstad, mens hustru Amanda døde i 1976.
