En Hotspot er en liten, kortvarig utstilling som belyser et aktuelt tema og inviterer publikum til å delta med egne meninger. En hotspot skal lages på kort varsel og med enkle midler. Ideen kommer fra Sverige, særlig Malmö Museer, som har laget hotspots om brennbare temaer som æresdrap, incest og nazisme. ABMU, Statens senter for arkiv, bibliotek og museer, har som en forsøksordning utpekt Norsk Folkemuseum og tre andre institusjoner til å lage hot spots. Utstillingen Homoekteskap? er Folkemuseets første hotspot.
Hot Spot is a new exhibition concept in Norway. Its purpose is to focus attention on a controversial topic and invite the visitor to take a stand. The exhibition Gay Marriage? is Norsk Folkemuseum's first Hot Spot.
